Bright tropical fish, corals, anemones, sponges, starfish and many other marine mansions await you in Water parks “Xel-Ha” and “Xcaret”, in Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya. In the Park “Xcaret” you will be able to see more than 5,000 species of marine life while diving in the Caribbean sea and 500 species of fish, shellfish and marine animals kept in aquariums and pools in which the water is pumped directly from the Gulf of Mexico.
Ecological Park “Xel-Ha” is the largest natural aquarium in the world with fresh water, which is constantly nourish the underground river coming to the surface current on the shore and in the Bay, where their waters mingle with the salty ocean currents. This combination of water creates a unique environment in which live fresh-water or marine fish.
Some ecosystems you will be able to see in the Park “Xcaret”, so complex that they managed to recreate only a few aquariums in the world. It is home to such rare species of fish like parrot fish, angelfish, Moray eels, and stingrays, sea cucumbers and lobsters. A natural lagoon you can see the green and loggerhead sea turtles, in special small basins – to touch some of the reef’s inhabitants, to tickle your nerves, standing by the pool in which the sharks swim and be photographed in an embrace with smiling dolphins.
In the South, the Riviera Maya you will find a Park “Xel-Ha”, in a natural Cove which lives several hundred species of tropical fish and over 90 species. This is a natural, one of a kind aquarium where you can swim and dive surrounded by dolphins, manatees and other amazing sea creatures that are endangered, and therefore protected Park “Xel-Ha”.
If you are afraid to swim in the company of dolphins, you can enjoy a boat trip to see marine life in their natural environment, without making a dive into the water. You can also explore the bays and cenotes of the Gulf of Mexico, doing the snub-diving. This kind of immersion will allow you to move freely under water by using the air supply system installed on the boat. You will be breathing through long hoses, which means you will need to constantly surface to breathe through a tube for Snorkelling or to carry on the back overall scuba. To try this kind of diving you do not need to be a certified diver, you need to have the desire.
